Basalt fiber cloth is a material made from extremely fine fibers of basalt, which is composed of the minerals plagioclase, pyroxene, and olivine. Basalt fibers are twice as strong as glass fibers and do not corrode in either fresh or salt water. Basalt cloth has better physicomechanical properties than fiberglass cloth, has unbelievable impact strength, and is significantly cheaper than carbon fibre.

Basalt cloth can be used as a fireproof textile in the aerospace and automotive industries, and Basalt Fibre can be the material in products such as camera tripods and tennis rackets. Basalt fiber can also be used as a reinforcement in concrete constructions or as a complete replacement for Fibreglass cloth. Basalt fibre has great heat insulation qualities, and the sound absorption qualities of materials made of basalt fibers are widely used in the aviation, shipbuilding, and machinery industries. Basalt fiber can be used to make structural materials combined with insulation and sound absorption!

The product comes folded into packs ranging from a 1/2 m to 10 m, (or your Basalt purchase can be rolled onto a roll for a small additional fee if you prefer). Complete 50-meter rolls of Basalt are available for purchase, or you can order your Basalt cloth in 20 m lengths. Rolls are then wrapped in plastic for shipping. If you require a specific length (eg: 15.5m) it can be rolled for you individually and collected from our factory at Hemmant.
